ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE (A.R.T. )
A.R.T. is a specialized hands-on manual therapy that is used to treat muscles and surrounding tissues that have been injured by acute trauma, repetitive overuse injuries and postural imbalance. When muscles are injured, scar tissue and adhesions will develop and surround these muscles. This can result in pain and inflammation, nerve entrapment and reduced mobility, which leads to poor muscle function and chronic pain. A.R.T. acts by breaking down scar tissue and adhesions, allowing for increased healing and improved mobility in the affected region.
JOINT MOBILIZATION AND MANIPULATION
Joint manipulation, also known as the “adjustment,” involves a gentle, controlled and directed pressure to a restricted joint to restore functional range of motion. Restricted joints do not move properly and can send painful stimuli to the brain for processing. Joint manipulation restores proper motion, and activates mechanoreceptors in the joint capsules leading to a decrease in the pain sensation. By restoring proper motion in joints, this further helps to reduce spasms and tension found in surrounding musculature.
Additionally, joint manipulation helps increase circulation of synovial fluid and breaks down fibrous adhesions that form around joints. By increasing circulation, this helps to nourish cartilage in joints, restore proper blood flow to muscles and surrounding structures, and help flush out toxins from the area.
All of this combined, leads to a faster healing time!
Adjustments are commonly performed in the joints along the spinal column, however extremity joint manipulation is also very effective at treating pain and dysfunction in your limbs!
THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND AND INTERFERENTIAL CURRENT THERAPY (IFC)
Therapeutic Ultrasound uses tiny sound waves to stimulate body tissues at a cellular level. It is used to promote healing of soft tissue injuries, decrease inflammation and increase circulation.
Interferential Current Therapy uses electrical pulses applied through pads placed on the surface of the skin to help decrease pain and muscle spasm. Different settings can be used to address either acute or chronic pain.
Both therapies help decrease pain and inflammation by increasing blood flow to the affected area of the body. By increasing blood flow, more oxygen and nutrients are brought to the injured area ultimately leading to a faster recovery and functional restoration.
REHABILITATION
Whether a person has a common musculoskeletal condition, has sustained an injury or is recovering from surgery, rehabilitation is imperative for the individual to improve and recover. Rehabilitation helps by reducing pain, returning tissues to their pre-injury state and preventing re-injury in the future. Rehabilitation involves restoring full joint range of motion, improving biomechanics, muscle re-training, strengthening and stretching. The Chiropractor performs functional assessments determining what anatomical structures are too weak, or too tight, in order to prescribe the correct exercises to ensure restoration of optimal function.
IN-HOME CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENTS
House calls are back! Patients can receive chiropractic treatments in the comfort of their own home and be assured their chiropractic needs will be met in a professional manner. Emergency calls will be met in a very timely manner. This mobile service is offered to patients throughout the Toronto area, at a very affordable rate.
KINESIO TAPING
Kinesio Taping services is a unique method of applying Kinesio Tape in a specific manner to provide support and stability to the joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is applied over the muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement on a 24hr/day basis. It is a non-restrictive type of taping which allows for full range of motion.Kinesio Taping is used for many conditions such as lower back strain/pain, herniated discs, knee conditions, shoulder conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome , hamstring, groin injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, pre and post surgical edema etc. It is also a key athletic injury prevention method.
Kinesio Tape is latex-free, hypoallergenic and wearable for days at a time. It is safe for populations from elite athletes to geriatric and pediatric patients.
ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. It is a complementary medical practice that involves the insertion of extremely thin needles at very precise acupuncture points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain and discomfort associated with a variety of diseases and conditions.
CUSTOM MADE ORTHOTICS
The Chiropractor performs biomechanical and gait analyses and provides custom made orthotics to patients.
What is a Custom Orthotic?
A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically correct position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. They reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. They realign the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motions that take place during the gait cycle. They fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole – and they are made from precise imprints of your feet.
Who Needs Custom Orthotics?
Individuals who have symptoms such as the following, may require orthotics:
Pain in arch / heel
Bunions, hammer toes
Leg / knee pain
Hip or back pain
